Who we are
Vzir is an independent management consultancy that responsibly supports organisations operating in high-risk emerging markets. We are there throughout the business lifecycle, from facilitating start-ups and market entry through to launching new ventures, products and services and expanding operations. Working across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, we have particular expertise in challenging markets including Iraq, Libya, and Ethiopia. Vzir brings together a broad range of industry experience including fast-moving consumer goods manufacturing, engineering, energy, construction and infrastructure businesses, software, cleantech and financial services.

Leanne is an entrepreneur and champion of responsible business. She is an expert on business strategy in challenging markets, having worked in post-conflict areas like Afghanistan and Iraq, where she advised governments, international organisations, multinational corporations and, SME’s. In recognition for her services, Leanne was awarded the Iraq Reconstruction Medal. During her 20-year international career she has established unique partnerships and built an impressive track record of implementing world-class projects in challenging environments. Leanne has particular interest and experience in the built environment, cleantech, energy and engineering projects as well as involvement with tech start-ups.
Middle East Director
Over the past 30 years, Khalid has been a trusted advisor to governments, NGOs and private sector companies. He has worked as a strategic advisor to SME’s and large FMCG businesses in a diverse range of markets and geographies including Iraq, Jordan, UK, Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana. He has contributed to a wide range of initiatives aimed at rebuilding post-conflict economies. Khalid has provided strategic advice on capacity building programmes for the government of Iraq; working on a combination of engineering and energy projects aimed at improving economic stability, employment creation, increasing FDI, supply chain optimisation and local content maximisation.
Dr Johan Franzén
Johan is a leading academic recognised for his expertise on the MENA region, and has published numerous books and articles on this topic. With a profound scholarly understanding developed over many years working on the region, he brings a unique perspective to the Vzir team. Over the past two decades, Johan has been teaching, carrying out research, and has been involved in public engagement on most aspects of Middle Eastern history and politics. He has also delivered tailor-made briefings and presentations to diplomats and business leaders working in the region.
